EARLY MEMORIES
Some of my earliest dance memories are of
my parents dancing in the kitchen.
They often had parties and somehow they
always danced.
My sister and I would dance on my dad's
shoes when we were learning.
I have a memory of going to the old country
to visit my great uncle and he played the
piano accordian and fiddle. Everyone would
dance and sing in his living room.
To this day when the music starts my
music started my mom just starts dancing
She is currently 84 years and dances two
evenings or more a week. They grew up
during the big band era. Dancing was a
natural part of their lives. As teenagers she
and her family went dancing for
entertainment.
When my sister's children were small
we three women would dance in the kitchen
each taking turns dancing with the children
on our hips.
Now I have to say those little one's are
grown and still dancing.
They just cannot get enough.
Make dancing a part of your life and
memories.
Dancing is free. Just put some music on and
work on some of your most common moves
in a rythymic manner. Put on a smile and
some comfortable dancing shoes and you
will be to start dancing.
My dad once told me the people he knew who
danced all their lives were some of the most
fit elders he knew.
So lets get dancing.

In 1983 Barbara saw "Tango Argentina" in
New York~ on Broadway. This left such a
lasting impression but finally Tango came
to Colorado. On her next visit to New York
she saw on Broadway the production "
Evita". The life story of Evita Peron who
greatly influenced Argentinian history.
Years later.........
while taking a short intermission from
ballet she discovered tango in Boulder.
It was simply addicting.
Having an interest in Argentina due to the
Tango something very interesting
happened.
While on a jazz cruise to the Caribean
Barbara met Rosa from Argentina that
inspired her Argentine segment to her
education. Rosa was so monumental in my
visit to Argentina. Making sure that each
evenng I was escorted to the next Milonga.
And Daily insisting I see all the historical
sites I could possibly see in-between private
tango lessons, tango lessons and practicas.
The oldest Milongiero I danced with was 98
years old. He had some very well seasoned
moves. I collected names of many of the
dancers I had the pleasure of dancing with
in Buenos Aires. I even had the pleasure of
singing jazz with a quartet at a Milonga on a
tango intermission which is common.
I heard the most astounding Tango
orchestra consisting of 6 bandiolins and 6
violins at a near by conservatory of music,
I visited San Telmo the historical site of of
the original Tango show. It was truly
a memorial visit to a gorgeous city with an
enormous amount of history and delictible
cuisine.
Later I visited Montreal for a Tango festival which coincided with the Montreal Jazz Festival. It was amazing. Dancing from one side of town to the other. Tango classes were held in all the different dance studio's in Montreal. There were many visiting Argentine teachers and I was fortunate to have a Tango Guitarist as my dance partner. So I visited many jazz clubs and sang in between Tango lessons and Milongas. I loved that I could use my mixture of spanish and french. Not by choice of course. This was a 14 day experience which infused my body and feet with unforgettable muscular memory for tango.
